Jean-Christophe Averty and Pierre Trividic
present the portrait of an eternal young man, who took on the aura of an old Chinese scholar to explore the movements of the heart in the imperfect subjunctive. The film attempts to reveal the links between fiction and Radiguet’s life, which ended in 1923 in his 20th year, shortly after Le Diable au corps. It recreates the artistic turmoil of the post-war period that encouraged this child genius. Faithful to his usual methods, Averty brings us a “videogram”, i.e. a kaleidoscope of images illustrating this frenzied destiny. The program is based on thousands of carefully edited documents that are adjusted or highlighted to illustrate a commentary that has all the appearances of chaos but perfectly renders this raging and explosive life. “Radiguet the Cat”, as he was known, retains his mystery.
