DREAMING OF SAO PAULO

For decades, driven by a violent survival instinct, farmers from Brazil’s Nordeste have emigrated to Sao Paulo, a city that epitomizes the dream essential to every poor land worker: eating, feeding their families, being recognized as somebody.All of them, who go on to melt into huge megalopolises, come from a culture, a past, a land and a family. They have a face. Poverty does not equal loss of identity.50 years ago, this dream was shared by a child who has since become famous: Luis Inácio da Silva, known as Lula, President of Brazil since January the 1st, 2003. Following Lula’s election, Brazil is changing like never before. We wish to explore the nature of the hopes raised, and with all of the characters we encounter during this 3,500-kilometer crossing, weave a story based on their inner visions of their lives and their own perception of Brazil today.
