INHERITANCES

Three Auschwitz survivors describe how and in what circumstances they have talked about their experience since their return. Their descendants describe what they felt on discovering it, how it has marked their identity and what they feel entrusted with. The result is a complex and sometimes contradictory narrative that highlights the effects of the spoken word and of what has been left unsaid over three generations, and more generally raises the issue of the passing on of history.
