What happens to the dance on screen? Very often, movies convey only dance’s drama and anecdotes, its story. What is needed is to bring the language of cinema into the service of choreographic expression.Beyond the simple fact of preservation, of keeping a memory alive, film should seek to expand the public’s knowledge of the language of choreography. The tools and techniques of cinematic expression should be used to promote a deeper understanding of choreographic expressions. Camera movements, a study of choreographic energy in the style of Ulysses. Filming as an expression of dance. Editing as an abstract narration of the choreographic plot. That is, assembling expression to create musicality and the continuum of the piece.
