MIROR MIROR

“Mon beau miroir” is an invitation to discover the department of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery opened by Professor Maurice Mimoun in December 2010 at the Hôpital Saint-Louis in Paris. Over several months, we follow a number of different patients who are going to have facial operations to undergo repair, both literally and figuratively, and to reconcile themselves with their image. Going through this transformation means confronting one’s share of humanity and one’s capacity for endurance but also submitting to the surgeon’s hands. This is an exploration of a specific department but also of an inner journey that refers back to private suffering, disease and life’s accidents. Without hierarchy or moral judgment, we raise the issue of taking that step and the necessity of doing so in order to accept oneself and so move ahead in life.
