The writer-director Gianluca Matarrese filmed his family’s struggle to avoid bankruptcy for several years in Italy.
Carmelina and Francesco moved from Calabria in 1969 to work for Fiat in Piedmont, where they made their fortune by managing about twenty shoe stores. Then the economic crisis hit Italy hard and signs reading “Fuori Tutto” (“Everything must go”) appeared on the Togo stores. Deep in debt, they had to make some difficult choices.
