A town in the eastern provinces of France, in the early 1960s, during the Algerian War, Mathilde Serpenoise, with her two children, Edouard and Fatima, returns from Algeria to live with her brother, Adrian. And she has not come in peace, but to take revenge on Adrian, who had denounced her in a former war for cooperating with the occupying force. This is a sort of family comedy where the love and hate between a brother and a sister are magnified by the stifling atmosphere of small-tow life. Thierry Thoma’s direction is snappy and precise, highlighting the story’s rapid twists and tums, the humour of the situations, and the physical engagement of the actors.
