November/December 1995. France is paralysed by a transport strike. Paris turns into a huge traffic jam and its inhabitants brave winter on foot or by bicycle. Nadia, a young woman, lives on minimum welfare. She is mother of six-month old Christopher whom she is bringing up alone.One day, she thinks she recognises the father of her child, who she hasn’t heard from, in a television report on the striking railway workers. She decides to go to Gare d’Austerlitz where the report was filmed to find him.
