In 1975, young Armenians from the diaspora living in Lebanon decided to found ASALA, the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia. Their objective was eminently political – to force the Turkish government to recognize the Armenian genocide and to return their ancestral lands – but their means were those of an armed struggle.
